MONTREAL — In response to a surge in travel demand, Air Canada is enhancing its regional flight network with several exciting additions and increased service frequencies. This strategic move aims to better connect various regions across Canada and provide travelers with greater access to domestic routes.
New Flight Routes Announced
Starting December 15, 2025, Air Canada will launch new connections between Ottawa and key destinations in New Brunswick: Fredericton and Moncton. Additionally, nonstop flights will commence from Vancouver to Fort McMurray, beginning December 2, 2025. The new routes reflect Air Canada’s commitment to linking underserved markets and responding to the evolving needs of its passengers.
Increased Frequencies for Greater Connectivity
As part of its adjustments to the regional network, Air Canada will also increase the number of flights from Toronto to Sudbury, effective February 1, 2026. This change signifies a boost in seat capacity by 50%, increasing from two to three daily flights. All these new and enhanced services will be operated using Air Canada Express Q400 aircrafts, ensuring a comfortable travel experience.
Strategic Connections for Business Travelers
Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada, emphasized the importance of diversifying domestic routes to meet rising travel demands. “The newest routes from Ottawa will link the National Capital Region to two growing areas in New Brunswick—Fredericton, the province’s capital, and Moncton, its largest urban center. These flights are strategically designed to connect with our broader domestic and vacation networks for more travel options,” he stated.
Flight Schedules and Details
The specifics of the newly introduced flights are as follows:
- Ottawa to Fredericton: Daily service starting December 15, 2025. Departures at 15:40, arriving at 18:10. Return flights depart at 16:15 and arrive at 17:00.
- Ottawa to Moncton: Daily service year-round from December 15, 2025, leaving at 17:55 and arriving at 20:40. Return flights will start on December 16, departing at 05:50 and arriving at 07:00.

- Sudbury to Toronto: Increased flights to three daily routes year-round effective February 1, 2026.
Suspensions and Market Viability
However, not all changes are expansion-focused; Air Canada has announced the suspension of operations to Bathurst and North Bay, effective January 30, 2026. This decision was taken to align with market viability considerations and the airline’s responsibilities under the Canada Transportation Act.
With these strategic additions and changes, Air Canada aims to enhance its regional connectivity while ensuring that travelers have access to a robust selection of flight choices. This is a significant step in the airline’s ongoing effort to meet the dynamic demands of the Canadian travel market.
