Holland America Line is expanding its presence in Northern Europe, announcing the addition of the Zuiderdam to its fleet in 2027. This new deployment will bring the total number of ships in the region to three, enhancing the cruise experience for travelers seeking unforgettable adventures.
Zuiderdam to Homeport in Amsterdam
The Zuiderdam will start its operations from Amsterdam, providing a variety of itineraries that complement the existing offerings by the Nieuw Statendam and the Rotterdam, both of which currently sail from Rotterdam, Netherlands. In addition to Amsterdam, the Zuiderdam will also offer departures from Reykjavik, making it easier for travelers to explore the breathtaking landscapes of Iceland.
Rising Popularity of Northern European Cruises
According to Paul Grigsby, Holland America’s vice president of deployment and itinerary planning, Northern Europe has turned out to be “extremely popular” among cruise guests. The results from internal surveys indicate that this region is highly appealing to both prospective and current travelers. “The destinations in the region are some of our highest-rated,” remarked Grigsby.
Popular ports such as Eidfjord and Bergen in Norway, as well as scenic views in Eyjafjordour, Iceland, are highly sought after. Other notable destinations include the U.K.’s Liverpool and Ireland’s Killybegs. “This season provides guests more chances to experience everything Northern Europe has to offer,” he added.
Current Itineraries and Future Opportunities
Currently, the Zuiderdam is engaged in voyages throughout the Caribbean, New England, and Canada for the years 2023 and 2024. With its upcoming expansion in Northern Europe, travelers can look forward to a broader selection of destinations and enhanced cruise experiences in 2027.
