CALGARY — WestJet has announced exciting expansions to its route network for summer 2026, introducing new international destinations from Toronto and Halifax, alongside fresh domestic connections from Western Canada.
A highlight of this announcement is WestJet’s inaugural nonstop service to Medellín, Colombia from Toronto, marking the airline’s first South American route. CEO Alexis von Hoensbroech emphasized the significance of this addition, stating, “With the advanced capabilities of our growing fleet of Boeing 737-8 Max aircraft, we’re thrilled to connect Eastern Canada to vibrant cultural hubs globally.”
Toronto Pearson International Airport is positioned as a key hub for international travel, facilitating a variety of new connections. WestJet plans to link Toronto with:
- Medellín, Colombia (MDE): 4x weekly service starting April 28, 2026 (pending government approval)
- Cardiff, UK (CWL): 4x weekly service starting May 22, 2026
- Ponta Delgada, Portugal (PDL): 4x weekly service starting June 12, 2026 (pending government approval)
- Glasgow, UK (GLA): 4x weekly service starting May 15, 2026
In addition to expanding its international offerings from Toronto, WestJet also revealed new transatlantic routes from Halifax Stanfield International Airport. New destinations include:
- Madrid: 4x weekly service beginning May 15, 2026
- Lisbon: 4x weekly service starting May 1, 2026 (pending government approval)
- Copenhagen: 4x weekly service commencing May 28, 2026
Moreover, WestJet will reinforce its partnership with Delta Airlines by launching a new connection between Halifax and Detroit, operating seven times a week starting May 18, 2026. Existing transatlantic routes to cities such as Barcelona, Amsterdam, Dublin, and London Gatwick will also resume this summer.

New Routes from Western Canada
Further enhancing its service, WestJet confirmed additional weekly seasonal flights from both Edmonton and Winnipeg to Reykjavik, Iceland:
- Edmonton to Reykjavik: Nonstop flights commencing June 26, 2026
- Winnipeg to Reykjavik: Nonstop flights starting June 27, 2026
WestJet is also introducing domestic routes, including:
- Three times weekly service between Winnipeg and London, Ontario.
- Five days a week service between Vancouver and Penticton, BC on its Dash 8-400 aircraft.
Year-Round Vacation Options
As part of its summer 2026 itinerary, WestJet is extending various sun destinations to operate year-round, including exciting vacation packages through its partnerships with WestJet Vacations and Sunwing Vacations. New routes include:
- Montreal to Puerto Plata: Weekly service
- Montreal to Samana: Weekly service
- Toronto to Puerto Plata: Weekly service
- Quebec City to Cayo Coco: Weekly service
- Winnipeg to Cancun: Weekly service
- Calgary to Mazatlan: Weekly service
- Calgary to Guadalajara: Weekly service (WestJet flights only)
