In a vibrant effort to showcase Mexico’s diverse travel offerings, local representatives have organized the Meet México Road Show in Toronto. Despite the absence of a unified Mexican tourism board, approximately 80 travel advisors gathered at the downtown Hilton to discover ten unique destinations across the country.
The initiative highlights a notable 6.6% increase in Canadian visitors between January and April of this year, reflecting Mexico’s growing appeal to travelers from Canada. Participating areas included popular locales such as Huatulco, Puerto Escondido, and Riviera Nayarit, along with the state of Sinaloa, Chihuahua, and booking platform HotelDO and airline Aeromexico.

The event featured an engaging format, beginning with a brief presentation from each destination, followed by a series of eight-minute roundtables hosted by their representatives. This interactive setting allowed advisors to deepen their understanding of new products tailored for their clients.
During discussions, attendees discovered that Canada is Mexico’s second largest tourism market after the United States, with flight connections to 12 cities throughout Mexico via six different airlines. Aeromexico has been highlighted for its flights from major Canadian airports, including Vancouver (YVR), Toronto (YYZ), and Montreal (YUL), making it easier than ever for Canadian travelers to explore Mexico.
Exploring the Richness of Mexican Tourism
While many envision Mexico as a land of sunny beaches and vibrant tequila culture, the country offers a plethora of experiences catering to various interests. With 35 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, history enthusiasts can indulge in Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. Moreover, train aficionados can marvel at the Tren Maya, an extensive 1,500 km rail network connecting diverse cities such as Cancun, Merida, and Chichen Itza.

Michele Martinson, Director of Sales/Canada for Aeromexico, emphasized the airline’s commitment to traveler comfort, offering direct flights to Mexico City (MEX) with comprehensive conectivity to over 50 cities nationwide. Passengers can enjoy exceptional onboard service, complete with gourmet meals and complimentary beverages across all classes.
Many participants, including staff from Elite Travel Services, expressed appreciation for the educational format of the event, noting interesting facts such as the surprising figure that 60% of Mexico City is dedicated to parkland. Barb Tudino of Barb Tudino Travel highlighted the affordability and variety of accommodation options within the country, emphasizing its appeal to Canadian travelers.

Among the attendees, TTAND’s Jeffrey Lewis-Matthews stood out by winning two round-trip tickets with Aeromexico from Canada to Mexico, marking a delightful highlight of the evening.
The Toronto Meet México event is part of a broader initiative across North America, with additional sessions planned, including one in Montreal in November. These gatherings aim to enhance awareness and understanding of Mexico’s limitless travel opportunities for Canadian advisors and travelers alike.
