Beginning in 2024, Trafalgar plans to embark on its river cruising journey by navigating the picturesque waters of the Danube and Rhine rivers, initially chartering older vessels from its sister company, Uniworld Boutique River Cruises. Additionally, plans are in place to introduce a third ship from Uniworld by 2027. The upcoming ships are expected to be a part of a new class that encapsulates Trafalgar’s hallmark of warm hospitality, engaging storytelling, and meticulous attention to detail.
Damien O’Connor brings over 20 years of extensive experience in cruise operations, new ship builds, and luxury product development to Trafalgar. His impressive background includes notable positions at Carnival Corporation, Disney Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Silversea. Notably, he was instrumental in the introduction of Celebrity’s renowned Solstice class and Royal Caribbean’s Quantum class.
In his recent consultancy roles, O’Connor has advised on luxury yacht projects for esteemed brands like Aman Hotels and Four Seasons, slated for launch in 2026 and 2027, respectively. “Travel advisors can anticipate a product that not only stands out in the market but also fosters repeat business and enhances client loyalty,” O’Connor expressed.
O’Connor elaborated, “River cruising offers an extraordinary chance to revolutionize how guests experience Europe. With Trafalgar’s storied legacy and profound destination expertise, we are presented with a groundbreaking opportunity for travel advisors.” His vision aligns with Trafalgar’s commitment to delivering enriching experiences that extend well beyond the journey.
Melissa DaSilva, the Chief Sales Officer and Deputy CEO of TTC Tour Brands, which oversees Trafalgar, emphasized that O’Connor’s vision transcends mere logistics. “He recognizes that river cruising is not only about ships and itineraries; it is about crafting unforgettable moments for our guests long after their travels conclude,” she stated. DaSilva concluded by expressing confidence that under O’Connor’s leadership, every new river vessel will encapsulate the Trafalgar spirit through exceptional experiences and genuine guest connections.
