With the glistening waters of Lake Ontario as a backdrop and the Toronto skyline towering above, the Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) recently held an exquisite media event. Guests were welcomed aboard the stylish Yankee Lady IV for a delightful two-hour cruise, adorned with a vibrant pink carpet that set the tone for an enchanting evening.
Dressed in pastel hues, attendees were greeted with lush floral displays, island-style cocktails, and a selection of hors d’oeuvres, all contributing to a relaxed, Bermuda-inspired ambiance on the water. Notable guests included members of the Bermuda National Cricket Team, local television personalities, and executives from BermudAir, the island’s new boutique airline launched in 2023.
Leading the BTA presentation was Jamari Douglas, Vice President of Marketing, PR, and Communications. He engaged with media and travel partners, promoting Bermuda as a coveted year-round destination. The Bermuda experience is particularly appealing to Ontario travelers, thanks to the island’s proximity—just a three-hour flight from Toronto, with even shorter journeys from further east. Douglas emphasized that Bermuda remains a destination full of untapped potential.
Recent statistics from the Caribbean Tourism Organization indicate a surge in Canadian tourist arrivals across the Caribbean, with Bermuda outpacing its counterparts. Canadian visitation to the island increased by 34% in the first quarter of 2025, and year-to-date growth has now surpassed 40%.
“While we may be separated by miles of ocean, we’re united in shared values,” Douglas shared during the event, just before a presentation showcasing Bermuda’s beauty and offerings. He remarked on the enduring connections built over the years, not just in visitor numbers but in friendships and partnerships, expressing optimism for fostering greater ties between the two nations.
Douglas reiterated Bermuda’s appeal to diverse types of travelers. “We’re open for business and welcome all kinds of travelers—leisure, group, and incentive,” he stated. “Bermuda offers a range of experiences and is known for being safe and welcoming to all guests.”
Bermuda’s accessibility is set to improve as BermudAir expands its services. Currently flying five days a week from Toronto (YYZ), BermudAir has also launched new flights from Montreal, operating every Thursday and Saturday. Julie Rempel, Head of Marketing at BermudAir, noted the airline’s success in establishing a foothold in Canada and indicated plans for further expansion. “We’re delighted to bring Bermuda to Quebec,” she commented, attributing the rapid growth to the airline’s inaugural Toronto route.
Even during winter months, Bermuda remains an attractive destination for Canadians, with daytime temperatures often lingering in the low 20s Celsius. Rempel, a Canadian herself, highlighted that the allure of Bermuda’s world-renowned pink-sand beaches continues to draw visitors year-round.
Bermuda is not just about its stunning beaches. Home to nine golf courses within a manageable 21 square miles, the island boasts one of the highest concentrations of golf courses per square mile in the world. BermudAir Holidays offers vacation packages blending flights, accommodations, and tee times, positioning Bermuda as an ideal getaway for golf enthusiasts.
“Whether it’s a girls’ weekend or a golf retreat, Bermuda provides the perfect setting for a short break,” Rempel noted, suggesting that travelers can enjoy both relaxation and recreation.
In addition to operating flights from Toronto and Montreal, BermudAir plans to enhance its service to Halifax from two to three times weekly in October. Rempel described this market as phenomenal, given its proximity and accessibility, stating that “Maritimers have been very receptive.”
As Bermuda continues to build its brand as a premier travel destination, the BTA and BermudAir are keen to promote their diverse offerings and unwavering commitment to welcoming travelers from Canada and beyond.
