REI Co-op Makes a Comeback in Travel with Intrepid Travel Partnership
In an exciting development for adventure enthusiasts, REI Co-op has officially reentered the travel sector by partnering with Intrepid Travel to offer an array of small-group tours across the globe. This comes just months after the outdoor retailer exited its previous experiences segment, as it faced financial difficulties earlier this year.
Starting in January, REI will roll out two new collections: the REI Exclusive and REI Recommended. These tours will be open for booking to everyone, regardless of REI membership status. However, co-op members can enjoy a special 15% discount on the Exclusive collection, making it an enticing offer for loyal customers. All itineraries will be expertly managed by Intrepid, ensuring high-quality travel experiences.
Leigh Barnes, president of Intrepid Travel in the Americas, emphasized that REI members are in search of “unique, authentic and meaningful travel experiences grounded in community.” This partnership aims to cater to those desires by delivering enriching adventures that resonate with REI’s mission.
What to Expect from the REI Exclusive Collection
The Exclusive collection promises over 25 curated itineraries ranging from three to 14 days in captivating destinations like Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Nepal, Peru, Portugal, Spain, Tanzania, and various regions in the United States. The collection will feature diverse activities, including hiking, multisport adventures, and women-led experiences, appealing to a wide range of travelers.
The REI Recommended Collection Offers More Choices
Meanwhile, the Recommended portfolio will showcase over 50 trips across 32 different countries, with durations ranging from four to 15 days. Travelers will find a selection of premium accommodations on some of these itineraries, adding a touch of comfort and luxury to their adventures.
Core Values Reflected in Travel Experiences
Susan Viscon, REI’s chief new ventures and impact officer, commented on the collections, stating that “These trips are designed to bring together REI members’ deep appreciation for familiar outdoor spaces and the thrill of discovering the unknown.” The offerings will embody the co-op’s commitment to time spent outdoors, inclusion, and sustainability, resonating with its dedicated community.
As part of its future plans, REI and Intrepid intend to expand these collections over time. More itineraries will be introduced, catering to evolving traveler interests and preferences, ensuring that adventurers can continuously find new adventures to embark upon.
This collaboration signifies a notable shift in REI’s strategy, aligning closely with its mission to inspire healthy outdoor living while providing engaging travel experiences that connect communities. For those seeking to explore the world responsibly, REI’s new travel offerings in partnership with Intrepid Travel seem poised to deliver what today’s adventurers crave: exploration, authenticity, and a deeper connection to the world around them.
