Porter Airlines celebrates its 19th anniversary, highlighting a remarkable journey of growth and innovation aimed at enhancing economy travel across North America. Over the past year, the airline has made significant strides, which are vital both for its operations and its passengers.
Rapid Growth and Fleet Expansion
In the last 12 months, Porter Airlines has expanded its workforce, increasing its team to more than 4,300 members – an addition of 400 personnel. The airline’s fleet has also seen transformation, now operating 48 Embraer E195-E2 jets, positioning Porter as the largest operator of this aircraft type worldwide, with aspirations to expand its fleet to 100 jets.
Route Expansion and New Destinations
Porter has made significant enhancements to its travel offerings, adding 20 new routes, raising its total to 87, and introducing seven new destinations, now boasting a total of 45. A notable first for the airline is its planned expansion beyond Canada and the U.S. scheduled for 2025, with new flights to Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America this winter. This expansion will include 13 routes from four Canadian airports, in addition to introducing key services from Hamilton International Airport.
The East Coast Foundation
Initially established at Billy Bishop Airport, Porter continues to bolster regional connectivity in Eastern Canada and key U.S. locations. It remains the largest airline at Billy Bishop, providing non-stop services on 15 routes, while also enhancing its presence at Toronto-Pearson, Hamilton, Ottawa, Montreal, and Halifax airports.
Setting Service Standards
Porter Airlines differentiates itself by offering an elevated economy service experience, characterized by the absence of middle seats, complimentary alcoholic beverages served in glassware, and premium snacks provided on every flight. This customer-centric approach has raised the bar for a more enjoyable flying experience, setting new standards within the aviation industry since its inception.
Award-Winning Recognition
Global recognition for Porter’s excellence includes prestigious accolades such as:
- APEX – Top 3 Regional Airlines in the World
- SkyTrax – Best Regional Airline North America
- USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards – Best Economy Class

Investing in Customer Loyalty
Earlier this year, Porter launched the BMO VIPorter Mastercard, providing Canadians with a novel way to earn travel rewards along with immediate frequent flyer benefits. This aligns with the airline’s efforts to expand its partnerships with major airlines, including Air Transat, American Airlines, and Alaska Airlines, enhancing connectivity beyond Canada.
