The Egyptian government has recently announced changes to its visa requirements for Canadian citizens, prompting a response from travel operator G Adventures. As of October 1st, 2023, Canadians planning to visit Egypt will need to secure a visa from either the Egyptian embassy or consulate located in Ottawa or Montreal. This update comes in the wake of a current option for an e-visa available through September 2023.
According to G Adventures, they are actively seeking confirmation from Egyptian authorities regarding these new entry requirements. They have already informed travelers departing in September that an e-visa will be necessary for entry into Egypt. The company assures that they will provide updates as more information becomes available.
David Green, Managing Director of G Adventures, expressed concern over the lack of advance notice regarding the visa changes. “This change represents a significant challenge for both Canadian travel agents and operators like G Adventures, who facilitate travel for thousands to Egypt annually,” he said. “There has been little communication surrounding the visa application process, and reaching the embassy for clarification has proven to be difficult.”
Green emphasized that travelers should expect an online application form to simplify the process; however, it seems this option will no longer be available after September. He advocates for a reassessment of the timing of these visa changes, urging that delays be considered to allow travelers ample notice and ensure effective processes can be put in place. “Failure to address this situation could result in the cancellation of numerous trips to Egypt by Canadian travelers,” he cautioned.
Green also called upon members of the Canadian Association of Tour Operators (CATO) and the Association of Canadian Travel Agencies (ACTA) to raise their concerns with the government regarding this development. The aim is to either reverse the new visa requirement or delay its implementation to mitigate disruption for travelers.
