Windstar Cruises Unveils New Star Class Vessel, Star Seeker
Windstar Cruises has marked a significant milestone in the world of luxury cruising with the debut of its first new Star Class vessel, the Star Seeker. The yacht successfully floated out of the building dock at WestSEA Shipyard in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, signifying its first contact with water.
Vessel Overview and Features
With the exterior of the Star Seeker now complete, the focus shifts to the lavish interiors, which will feature 112 spacious suites designed for maximum comfort. Guests can look forward to five distinguished dining options, a full-service spa boasting a grand entrance from the upper deck, and a state-of-the-art fitness facility. One of the standout features of the ship will be an innovative Watersports Platform, transforming the ocean into what Windstar describes as an “infinity pool,” enabling guests direct access to the sea.
Operational Plans and Maiden Voyage
Set to accommodate 224 guests with an impressive staff-to-guest ratio of 1:2, the Star Seeker is scheduled to commence operations in December 2025. Its inaugural voyage will take place from Málaga, Spain, to the cruise line’s headquarters in Miami, Florida, where the official christening ceremony will occur in January 2026. Following the christening, the vessel will embark on its maiden Caribbean cruise and subsequently navigate along the West Coast of the United States to Alaska, where it will operate a full season of summer cruises before heading to Asia for its renowned Around Japan itineraries.
Significance of the Float-Out Ceremony
The float-out ceremony is a cherished maritime tradition marking the first occasion a ship leaves dry dock to become waterborne. Esteemed figures in attendance included Mario Ferreira and Manuel Barros from Mystic Invest, along with Windstar’s Vice President of Expansion Projects, John Gunner, who oversees the shipbuilding project.
Future Developments in Windstar’s Fleet
Windstar Cruises plans to introduce an additional sister ship, the Star Explorer, by December 2026. Both the Star Seeker and Star Explorer are constructed with ice-strengthened hulls, enabling access to diverse and remote destinations. The ships feature cutting-edge safety, propulsion, and navigation technologies, including advanced pump jet thrusters and forward-facing sonar.
Environmental Commitment
Windstar is dedicated to minimizing its environmental footprint, and the new vessels reflect this commitment. Equipped with tier III Nox-rated Rolls Royce engines and capable of connecting to shore power, the ships also integrate advanced wastewater treatment systems. Windstar emphasizes that “every aspect of their design reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to preserving the environment while providing unforgettable experiences to travelers.”
As Windstar Cruises prepares for this exciting new chapter, the Star Seeker stands poised to deliver exceptional voyages, setting a new standard in luxury travel.
