National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions has officially named its two latest expedition ships, the National Geographic Delfina and the National Geographic Gemini, in a ceremony that took place on Thursday. These vessels were formerly known as the Celebrity Xploration and Celebrity Xpedition, which National Geographic-Lindblad acquired from Celebrity Cruises last summer.
Both ships began service for National Geographic-Lindblad in February and March, enhancing the company’s Galapagos fleet, which already includes the 98-passenger National Geographic Endeavour II and the 48-passenger National Geographic Islander II.
Details of the Naming Ceremony
The naming event was attended by the leadership team of National Geographic-Lindblad, along with staff, their families, local dignitaries, and community representatives from the Galapagos Islands. This celebration marked a significant milestone for the company as it continues to expand its offerings in this ecologically rich region.
Overview of the New Expedition Ships
The National Geographic Gemini, designed to accommodate 48 guests, features 28 well-appointed staterooms. On the other hand, the National Geographic Delfina provides a unique and intimate sailing experience with a capacity of just 16 passengers in its eight luxurious cabins. Ana Esteves, Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations, emphasized the exclusivity of traveling on the Delfina during a recent webinar. “Having just sixteen guests means that you can bring your best friends,” she noted. “It’s a perfect option for two families wanting to charter this ship together.”
Expedition Opportunities in the Galapagos
Both new ships offer unique itineraries that cater to adventurers looking to explore the stunning biodiversity of the Galapagos Islands. Travelers can expect immersive experiences that align with National Geographic’s commitment to education and conservation. Guided by expert naturalists, guests will have the chance to encounter the islands’ iconic wildlife, participate in shore excursions, and enjoy local cuisine, making for a well-rounded exploration of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
National Geographic-Lindblad’s Commitment to Sustainable Travel
National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions continues to lead the way in sustainable tourism practices, ensuring that their operations support conservation efforts in the Galapagos. With the addition of the National Geographic Delfina and Gemini, the company aims to provide an enriching travel experience while preserving the delicate ecosystems of the islands.
As interest in eco-tourism grows, these new vessels are set to attract travelers seeking an authentic experience in one of the world’s most extraordinary destinations. With limited passenger capacity and a focus on responsible travel, National Geographic-Lindblad Expeditions is poised to redefine how individuals explore the Galapagos.
