In a bid to combat deforestation and promote sustainability, the collaboration between Experience Kissimmee and Trees4Travel has made significant strides over the past two years. The partnership has successfully planted 103,203 diverse tree species in various global locations, including Mozambique, Kenya, Nepal, and Haiti. Each tree contributes to essential ecosystem restoration and biodiversity while supporting local communities in their reforestation efforts. Notably, these initiatives have also helped in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 16,936 tons through hybrid climate contributions and involvement in United Nations renewable energy projects.
“Experience Kissimmee’s initiative to plant indigenous trees at the Pioneer Village showcases a commendable commitment to environmental preservation,” noted Nico Nicholas, CEO of Trees4Travel and Co-Founder of ZEERO Group. “Getting involved hands-on in such local projects helps ensure communities are engaged in tree preservation and restoration, which benefits everyone.”
To encourage participation, Experience Kissimmee offers tree plantings as alternatives to disposable promotional items at selected trade shows and events. Attendees can easily scan a QR code that allows them to request tree planting through the Trees4Travel network, making participation seamless and impactful.
Emissions Compensation and Incentives
Meetings and groups partaking in the “It Pays to Meet in Kissimmee” incentive program are offered partial emissions compensation. For every room night booked, one tree is planted, and a certificate is provided to the meeting planner. For instance, a meeting generating 500 room nights will result in the planting of 500 trees, highlighting the synergy between hospitality and sustainability.
Additionally, all approved staff business travel emissions are offset using the Trees4Travel emissions calculator. Each tree planted not only supports reforestation but is also accompanied by an investment in United Nations Certified Emission Reduction Carbon Credits, making each effort count toward a more sustainable future.
Sustainability Initiatives by Experience Kissimmee
Global Destination Sustainability Index Participation
In 2024, Experience Kissimmee and Osceola County became the first participants in Florida to join the Global Destination Sustainability (GDS) Index, positioning themselves among few destinations in the U.S. This index provides a comprehensive assessment of strengths and opportunities, guiding ongoing efforts in destination stewardship.
Fill it Forward Initiative
Experience Kissimmee has partnered with Fill it Forward to encourage the use of reusable water containers and reduce plastic waste. Each refill at the office contributes to a charitable donation, resulting in significant environmental benefits, such as diverting 28 pounds of waste and saving 529 kWh of energy since its launch in December 2024.
O-Town Compost Collaboration
In 2025, a waste diversion initiative with O-Town Compost was established to collect food waste from the office. This composting effort is distributed to local farmers, fostering a circular food system in Central Florida.
TerraCycle Recycling Program
To further combat plastic waste, Experience Kissimmee implemented a lanyard recycling program using TerraCycle’s recycling system. This program ensures that lanyards and badge holders are recycled and reused, minimizing landfill contributions.
