Intrepid Travel has proudly achieved B Corp recertification, a significant accolade that underscores its commitment to social and environmental excellence. With a score of 102.5, the company has made an impressive leap from its previous score of 91.2 in 2021, positioning itself alongside esteemed brands such as Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s.
“This isn’t just a badge—it’s proof that purpose and profit go hand in hand. When businesses lead with values, record-breaking impact and success follow,” stated Leigh Barnes, Intrepid’s new President of the Americas. This sentiment reinforces the idea that consumer expectations are shifting towards companies that prioritize sustainability and responsible practices.
Additionally, Wildland Trekking, Intrepid’s backcountry provider, has obtained its first B Corp certification, marking a historic moment as it becomes the first outfitter in the industry to meet these rigorous standards. Co-founder Scott Cundy expressed that this milestone serves as a rallying cry for the entire industry, emphasizing the importance of conservation and inspiring customers to embrace and protect natural environments.
In the previous year, Intrepid Travel’s non-profit arm, The Intrepid Foundation, reported raising over $2 million for local partners across 36 countries. This initiative illustrates the company’s ongoing dedication to impactful social contributions on a global scale. The growth of certified companies within the tourism sector has also been notable; from just 19 in 2018 to nearly 200 today, demonstrating a collective movement towards responsible travel.
As the company navigates the complexities of today’s world, including geopolitical instability and climate change, Chief People and Purpose Officer Meegan Marshall reinforced the need for bold action. “While others pull back on DEI and ESG, we’re doubling down,” she affirmed, advocating for a regenerative and equitable economy that benefits all.
“At Intrepid, purpose and profit go hand in hand. In the face of geopolitical instability, the climate crisis, and growing inequality, it’s not the time to retreat—it’s the time for bold action to build a regenerative, equitable economy for everyone.” This assertion highlights the organization’s commitment to not only its success but also to the broader responsibilities we all share towards sustainability.
