The Avenir, an ambitious mixed-use casino complex proposed for Manhattan’s West Side, is set to feature a luxurious 1,000-room hotel affiliated with Hyatt, contingent on successful approvals from city officials. This hotel, named The Avenir, will join the esteemed Destination by Hyatt collection, linking it to the popular World of Hyatt loyalty program.
The vision behind The Avenir stems from developer Silverstein Properties, which aims to bolster the lucrative convention business in proximity to the Javits Center. Tal Kerret, president of Silverstein Properties, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “New York City is competing globally for exhibitions, conventions, and meetings.” He added that the collaboration with renowned food and beverage partners—and now a prestigious hotel brand—will enhance the city’s tourism and convention sectors.
The planned complex is not just about accommodation; it will host full-service restaurants and a vibrant food hall highlighting local eateries. This focus on gastronomy aims to attract both tourists and locals, thereby enriching the overall experience for visitors.
Dan Hansen, head of Americas development at Hyatt, described the project as a "significant milestone" in Hyatt’s strategic growth within key travel destinations. This expansion into Manhattan reflects Hyatt’s commitment to enhancing its offerings in urban areas that are pivotal to business and tourism.
Currently, eight developers remain in contention for the West Side casino project, following the withdrawal of Wynn Resorts from the bid. The ongoing interest from various developers underscores the competitive landscape surrounding the project, which is expected to revitalize the area while also boosting New York City’s economy.
As plans progress, stakeholders and residents alike are keenly watching how The Avenir can transform Manhattan’s West Side into a premier destination for both leisure and business travelers.
