Hilton has announced an exciting new venture with plans to establish a NoMad hotel within Detroit’s historic Michigan Central Station.
This luxury hotel will be brought to life through a collaboration with Ford Motor Company, which purchased the once-vibrant Michigan Central Station in 2018. The hotel is expected to play a key role in The Station at Michigan Central, a significant redevelopment project aimed at transforming the former passenger rail terminal into a bustling district featuring retail spaces, public parks, outdoor plazas, and an impressive 1.2 million square feet of commercial real estate spread across several restored historic structures.
Hilton’s initiative will focus on a “careful renovation” of the Michigan Central Station—a building that has seen its passenger rail services cease since 1988 and has largely remained vacant, succumbing to deterioration over the years until Ford’s recent revitalization efforts.
In 2022, Hilton acquired the NoMad hotel brand and is poised to expand it significantly. Alongside the anticipated NoMad Detroit, Hilton has more than 15 additional projects at various stages of development worldwide. Notably, a 173-room NoMad hotel in Singapore is on track to welcome guests by 2027.
The new NoMad hotels will complement the existing NoMad London property, which opened its doors in 2021. This expansion is part of Hilton’s broader strategy to enhance its portfolio of luxury and lifestyle accommodations. The company is aiming to introduce three luxury and lifestyle hotels weekly through 2025, with over 150 openings scheduled globally this year.
Currently, Hilton boasts nearly 1,000 luxury and lifestyle hotels in its portfolio under several esteemed brands, including Curio Collection, Tapestry Collection, Waldorf Astoria, LXR, Conrad, Graduate, Canopy, Signia, Motto, and Tempo. This extensive range highlights Hilton’s commitment to providing exceptional experiences for travelers worldwide.
