Marriott International has unveiled its inaugural safari-themed property under the Ritz-Carlton brand, a luxurious tented camp nestled in the heart of Kenya’s renowned Masai Mara National Reserve.
Strategically positioned along the Sand River near the Kenya-Tanzania border, the Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara Safari Camp boasts 20 elevated tented suites that blend seamlessly with the surrounding acacia trees. Rates for this opulent experience start at $3,500 per person, per night, encompassing all-inclusive offerings tailored to international travelers.
Each suite is equipped with luxurious amenities, including private plunge pools, outdoor showers, and stargazing decks, enhancing the overall safari experience. The camp prioritizes community involvement, with over 70% of staff sourced locally, and each guest is paired with a personal encholiek, a Masai cultural guide and butler, to enrich their stay.
Architectural design by LW Design integrates biophilic principles through the use of canvas walls and vast indoor-outdoor lounges. Local artisans have made significant contributions by crafting hand-carved wooden furniture, woven textiles, and intricate Masai beadwork that adorns the property.

Culinary offerings are diverse, featuring globally inspired dishes at the Nest restaurant and relaxed settings at the Canopy bar and lounge. Guests can also indulge in meals at the elevated Upeo Sky Deck, perfect for stargazing dinners. For a unique cultural experience, a traditional boma showcases Masai traditions, and the Whispering Tree Spa offers treatments using native botanicals like aloe and marula.
Sustainable Features
The Ritz-Carlton, Masai Mara prioritizes sustainability with operational practices such as a solar power facility and an advanced 7,000-kilowatt-hour battery storage system. A closed-loop water treatment system is in place for greywater recycling and rainwater harvesting while adhering to a zero-waste-to-landfill policy.
Exciting Activities for Guests
Adventure-seekers can partake in a variety of activities, including twice-daily private game drives in Land Cruisers, breathtaking hot air balloon rides, and cultural workshops with local Masai artisans. For families, the Young Warrior Programme offers engaging activities tailored for children aged 6 and older.
Access to the camp is convenient, with 45-minute flights available from Nairobi’s Wilson Airport to the nearby Serena Airstrip, or opt for a scenic five-hour road transfer from Nairobi.
All-inclusive rates not only cover accommodations and meals but also beverages (excluding premium spirits and specialty dining venues), two daily game drives, laundry services, Wi-Fi, photography equipment, and airport transfers. While premium wine experiences and the Wine Cellar dining venue have extra charges, the overall offerings ensure a comprehensive and luxurious safari retreat.
