The Walt Disney World Resort in Florida is set to introduce an exciting new attraction, titled The Magic of Disney Animation, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, slated to open in 2026. This innovative experience will be inspired by the 2023 short film, “Once Upon a Studio,” which showcases beloved Disney characters as they gather for a group photo at the Walt Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, California.
Immersive Experience Ahead
Guests stepping into The Magic of Disney Animation can expect a delightful twist on the real-life studio environment. Disney describes it as a whimsical experience where characters come alive when the animators are away. The new attraction will occupy the current location of Star Wars: Launch Bay, leading to temporary closures of the Launch Bay, Animation Courtyard, and Disney Jr. Play and Dance! starting September 25. However, The Little Mermaid — A Musical Adventure and Walt Disney Presents will still welcome visitors.
Features of The Magic of Disney Animation
Once opened, The Magic of Disney Animation will feature a distinctive building adorned with Mickey’s sorcerer’s hat. Inside, guests will explore various departments of the animation studio, beginning with the captivating Production Gallery, where lifelike portraits reminiscent of the short film are displayed. The attraction’s Screening Theater will showcase a featured short film, enhancing the immersive experience.
In addition to themed exhibits, an indoor playground named Drawn to Wonderland will offer children a variety of engaging activities. Visitors will enjoy an oversized flower garden with musical instruments, an interactive Tulgey Wood area, and a whimsical Mad Tea Party playset, all inspired by the enchanting concept art of Disney Legend Mary Blair from Alice in Wonderland.
Character Encounters and Artistic Exploration
The attraction will also provide opportunities for character meet-and-greets, allowing guests to interact with their favorite Disney icons. Art enthusiasts can take part in drawing workshops, learning how to sketch beloved characters directly from the experts.
Renovations and New Spaces
Animation Courtyard will undergo significant renovations to unveil a new outdoor area named The Walt Disney Studios. This space will be revitalized with seating, landscaping, and other surprises, creating a vibrant atmosphere for guests.
Collaboration and Expertise
The project is being developed with the expertise of Trent Correy and Dan Abraham, directors of "Once Upon a Studio.” Abraham expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration: “Working on this film was the highlight of my career — the most fun I’ve ever had. Collaborating with the incredible talents at Walt Disney Imagineering to bring our vision to life is beyond our wildest dreams.”
As anticipation builds for The Magic of Disney Animation, guests can look forward to an immersive experience that celebrates the timeless allure of Disney storytelling and animation. Stay updated for more information on this exciting new attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
