Delta Air Lines Expands International Remote Baggage Screening in Atlanta
Delta Air Lines is enhancing the travel experience for its passengers by introducing international remote baggage screening for select flights arriving in Atlanta from London Heathrow and Seoul Incheon airports. This innovative initiative allows travelers to enjoy a smoother journey without the hassle of collecting and rechecking their luggage at U.S. customs.
Streamlined Travel for Delta and Korean Air Customers
The new program, a collaboration between U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the governments of South Korea and the U.K., offers significant convenience for Delta and Korean Air customers. Travelers flying from Seoul to Atlanta, as well as Delta passengers arriving from London Heathrow, can benefit from this system without the need to retrieve their bags upon arrival. This service is also available for those starting their journey in other cities and connecting through Korean Air via Seoul Incheon.
Time-Saving Benefits for Passengers
Delta estimates that this new baggage screening process could save passengers up to 25 minutes, greatly enhancing their travel experience. Furthermore, Delta customers connecting in Atlanta from London will enjoy additional time savings. They can bypass extra TSA screening and head directly to their connecting gates, potentially saving up to 45 minutes. This feature is expected to roll out to all flights from Heathrow to Atlanta in the coming weeks, following its successful implementation for those connecting in Heathrow from Atlanta since February.
Eligibility for Bypassed Screening
To take advantage of the expedited screening process, Delta passengers must be enrolled in the Global Entry program or utilize the Mobile Passport Control app. These measures not only streamline the travel process but also enhance security protocols, creating a seamless experience for international flyers.
The One-Stop Security Initiative
This initiative is part of the One-Stop Security pilot program, established by Congress in 2022. The TSA and CBP have taken the lead on this project, with the first implementation for inbound travelers commencing last month for American flights to Dallas-Fort Worth from Heathrow. Additionally, a trial program launched on February 4 allows passengers arriving at Heathrow to connect to a third country, benefiting travelers arriving from Dallas on American Airlines or from Atlanta via Delta or Virgin Atlantic.
This strategic move by Delta Air Lines not only enhances the efficiency of air travel but also strengthens transcontinental partnerships, ultimately providing travelers with a more convenient flying experience.
