In response to a surge in demand, AmaWaterways has announced plans to expand its river cruise fleet in Europe by adding eight new ships by 2030. This expansion comes in addition to already scheduled deliveries set for 2026 and 2027.
Upcoming Ship Introductions
The first new ship, the AmaSofia, is set to debut in spring 2026. This elegant vessel will traverse both the Rhine and Danube rivers, catering to travelers keen on exploring these scenic waterways. Two more ships are slated to join the fleet in 2027: the AmaRudi and the AmaFiora.
AmaRudi: A Unique Vessel
The AmaRudi, named after AmaWaterways’ co-founder and long-serving CEO Rudi Schreiner, will be a double-wide Danube ship, similar in design to its sister ship, the AmaMagna, which launched in 2019. Meanwhile, the AmaFiora will focus its itineraries on the picturesque Rhine River.
A Comprehensive Fleet Expansion
AmaWaterways currently boasts a fleet of 27 ships globally, with 23 stationed in Europe, including three that specifically operate on the Douro River in Portugal. With the addition of eight more ships, the company plans to expand its entire fleet to 40 vessels by 2030, enhancing its offerings for river cruise enthusiasts.
Global Offerings Beyond Europe
Apart from its extensive European river cruise options, AmaWaterways has also ventured into international waters with two ships navigating the Nile in Egypt, and one each on the Mekong River in Vietnam/Cambodia and the Magdalena River in Colombia. Another ship, the AmaMelodia, is set to arrive for Colombian cruises in October, and a new addition to the Mekong fleet, the AmaMaya, is expected in 2026.
With these exciting developments on the horizon, AmaWaterways continues to solidify its position as a leader in the river cruise market, meeting the growing demand for immersive travel experiences across both popular and emerging destinations.
