Air Canada Expands Winter Flights to Jamaica for 2025-26 Season
In an exciting development, Air Canada has announced a significant increase in its flight capacity to Jamaica for the upcoming 2025-26 winter season. The airline plans to boost its seat availability by 23.2%, introducing two new routes and enhancing frequencies into Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport (SIA).
New Routes and Enhanced Frequencies
Starting in December 2025, Air Canada will launch new weekly flights from Ottawa and Halifax, providing improved access from Canada’s capital region and the Atlantic provinces. The Ottawa route is set to commence on December 7, 2025, operating every Sunday until April 12, 2026. Meanwhile, the Halifax service will begin on December 4, 2025, with weekly flights every Tuesday until April 9, 2026.
Additionally, Air Canada is increasing its operations from Toronto, ramping up from seven to ten weekly flights, while Montreal services will see an increase to four weekly flights.
Boosting Travel to Jamaica
Angella Bennett, Regional Director for Canada at the Jamaica Tourist Board, expressed enthusiasm about the enhanced flight offerings: “As we continue to strengthen our presence in this important market, we’re confident that these new options will inspire more travellers to choose Jamaica for their next unforgettable getaway.” This sentiment reflects a broader effort to rejuvenate tourism in Jamaica, especially following a slight decline in commercial flights during the previous year.
Commercial Flight Trends to Jamaica
Despite the optimistic expansion plans, it is noteworthy that airport traffic at SIA, which handles approximately 70% of the island’s air travel, recorded a 3% decrease last year. Addressing these challenges while rebuilding capacity will be crucial for both Air Canada and Jamaica’s tourism industry as they aim to attract more visitors and stimulate economic growth.
The increase in flights and new routes is a positive step forward in making Jamaica an even more accessible and appealing destination for Canadian travellers. With these enhancements, Jamaica is set to remain a top choice for winter getaways in 2025-26.
