Air Canada has issued a notice to Aeroplan members regarding the reinstatement of its points expiration policy. While members can rest easy for now, the company has confirmed that Aeroplan points will remain safe until November 29, 2026. After this date, any account that shows inactivity for a period of 18 months will see its points expire.
In a message posted on Air Canada’s official website, the airline detailed: "Between now and November 29, 2026, any Aeroplan points which would have expired, won’t. Effective November 30, 2026, our normal expiration policy will apply."
To keep their accounts active, members are required to either earn or redeem at least one Aeroplan point during the 18-month period. Eligible activities include:
- Earning points through purchases or partnerships
- Redeeming points for flights, hotels, or gift cards
- Donating points to charitable organizations
- Transferring points to another Aeroplan account
The expiration policy was previously suspended in July 2020, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, to support members who may not have been able to earn points during extended periods at home. This adjustment also extended the inactivity period from 12 to 18 months.
Aeroplan, which serves over nine million active members, provides opportunities for earning and redeeming points through partnerships with more than 45 airlines across 1,300 destinations globally. Members also have access to over 9,000 hotels and various retail partners through the Aeroplan eStore.
Furthermore, Air Canada is preparing for additional changes to the Aeroplan program in 2026 that will alter the way points are earned. This information is crucial for members keen on maximizing their benefits within the Aeroplan loyalty program.
For those looking to maintain their Aeroplan accounts, it’s advisable to keep track of point earning and redeeming activities to avoid any unexpected expirations. The full details can be found on the official Air Canada website.
