Abercrombie & Kent has reopened its safari-style Gorilla Forest Lodge in Uganda.
Abercrombie & Kent has revived its luxury retreat, previously known as Gorilla Forest Camp, by reopening the newly designed Gorilla Forest Lodge. Situated in the breathtaking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, this 10-room A&K Sanctuary lodge offers guests unrivaled access to an area teeming with wildlife, including half of the world’s mountain gorilla population.

Designed by Luxury Frontiers, the lodge exemplifies sophisticated eco-tourism with its seamless integration into the forest environment. Utilizing local materials, the structure features roofs crafted from sustainable papyrus reed thatch and banana fiber cladding, handwoven by artisans from Ride 4 a Woman, a local NGO. This attention to detail allows the lodge to blend harmoniously with its surroundings.
Echoing the artistry of local culture, the lodge preserves historic elements, such as reception doors carved decades ago by Bwindi craftspeople. The open layout of the lodge boasts large windows and lofty ceilings, offering guests stunning views of the lush forest. Custom light fixtures, adorned with more than 120,000 hand-strung recycled beads, enhance the lodge’s earthy aesthetic.

Designed with a philosophy of synergy with the environment, Juan Cloete, an Associate at Luxury Frontiers, stated, “Designing in Bwindi meant working with, not against, the forest. We drew inspiration from its rhythms and textures to create spaces that dissolve the boundary between lodge and landscape, so every guest feels immersed in the spirit of Uganda.”
