“Car coming,” our excursion guide called, urging our group to huddle against the vibrant walls of Lari’s buildings as a vehicle navigated the tight streets.
This enchanting moment introduced visitors to the small Tuscan town of Lari, a hidden gem that doesn’t boast the typical tourist attractions of Florence or Pisa yet offers a unique charm worth experiencing. Though not equipped with sidewalks, this quaint locale invites exploration, where rare vehicles enhance the serene atmosphere.
Arriving early that morning at the port of La Spezia aboard the state-of-the-art Celebrity Ascent, the port’s proximity to both Florence and Pisa makes Lari an easy excursion. About a two-hour drive or train ride connects visitors to the iconic cultural hubs of Italy.

Reflecting on the Excursion
As the return journey began, a mix of nostalgia and contemplation washed over travelers. The 90-minute drive to Lari, followed by additional travel to the farm, leads one to ponder if their time could have been better spent visiting Florence, with its unrivaled cultural offerings. The scenic route included insights about the region’s history and agricultural practices, enhancing the overall experience.
While the peaceful ambiance of Lari and its unique experiences may cater perfectly to travelers looking for an escape from the bustling tourist spots, those yearning for iconic sights in Florence should consider that longer bus rides yield greater rewards. Choosing the Lari excursion stands out as an ideal alternative for those less inclined to visit Florence or seeking a slow-paced culinary experience. Guests with a penchant for the famous Italian city, however, are encouraged to utilize Celebrity’s early arrival in the port and take the trip to immerse themselves in the rich culture, art, and history Florence has to offer.
