Immerse yourself in the unique sauna experience at Lapis Spa & Wellness, nestled within the upscale Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The sauna’s co-ed event space offers a blend of relaxation and ritual that is truly one-of-a-kind.
Visitors begin their journey in the sauna, where the temperature reaches 165 degrees paired with 10% humidity. Calm visuals and serene music create a peaceful atmosphere as participants settle into the wooden benches. Shortly after, the aufguss ritual commences, elevating the temperature to over 175 degrees with increased humidity. Attendees are treated to aromatic infusions of essential oils, carried throughout the space by the aufguss meister, who artfully circulates the room with a towel to disperse heat and fragrance.
The aufguss sauna experience serves not just as a personal retreat but as a communal gathering. “Saunas have long been a symbol of community and social connection, particularly in Northern Europe,” says Jennifer Lynn, director of spa and wellness for Fontainebleau. She observes a rising interest in holistic practices as Americans increasingly seek to rejuvenate their spirits through traditional baths and rituals.
Guests can partake in the aufguss ritual multiple times a day, spanning around 15 minutes and accompanied by music. Between sessions, visitors can choose to cool down in a 55-degree pool, alternating between the sauna’s warming embrace and the refreshing chill of the water. This contrasting therapy is central to the spa’s four-hour Celestial Waters Passport experience, characterized by varying atmospheres throughout the day.
Lapis Spa & Wellness is only one facet of what the Fontainebleau has to offer. Spanning 55,000 square feet, the spa features separate men’s and women’s areas as well as communal spaces boasting amenities like an infrared sauna, salt mist chamber, and herbal inhalation room. This oasis connects to a comprehensive 14,000-square-foot fitness center, complete with 44 treatment rooms and additional relaxation lounges.
