JetBlue Expands Puerto Rico Operations with New Routes
JetBlue Airways, the leading airline in Puerto Rico in terms of seat capacity, has announced an exciting expansion of its operations from San Juan, set to launch in March 2024. This expansion includes five new routes, further solidifying JetBlue’s presence in the market and increasing travel options for passengers.
New Year-Round Routes from San Juan
Beginning next month, JetBlue will offer year-round service from San Juan to several key destinations, including Philadelphia, Buffalo, N.Y., Jacksonville, Fla., and the Virginia cities of Richmond and Norfolk. Upon the launch of these routes, JetBlue will serve a total of 22 cities from San Juan, enhancing connectivity for both business and leisure travelers.
Route Schedule and Frequency
The flight schedules for the new routes are as follows:
- Jacksonville: Four times per week starting March 13, 2024.
- Philadelphia: Daily service begins March 26, 2024.
- Richmond: Three times per week, also starting March 26, 2024.
- Norfolk: Four times per week, commencing March 27, 2024.
- Buffalo: Four times per week, with operations starting March 27, 2024.
JetBlue’s Position in the Market
Currently, JetBlue operates 17 routes from San Juan, providing extensive travel choices. It ranks second in total routes behind Frontier Airlines, which offers 20 routes. However, JetBlue stands out by operating more than double the number of flights compared to Frontier, coupled with a staggering 77% increase in available seating capacity, according to Cirium flight data.
This strategic expansion reflects JetBlue’s commitment to enhancing its services in Puerto Rico, catering to the growing demand for air travel in the region.
