Cruise Lines Reveal Exciting 2027 Destinations: Alaska, Japan, and the Caribbean Are on the Rise
As cruise lines unveil their 2027 deployments and itineraries, emerging trends highlight increased sailings to captivating destinations such as Alaska, Japan, and the Caribbean. These regions are proving to be popular choices among travelers seeking unique and enriching cruise experiences.
Alaska: A Growing Attraction for Cruise Lines
In 2027, both National Geographic Lindblad Expeditions and Celebrity Cruises will expand their offerings in Alaska. Celebrity is set to extend the season of the Celebrity Edge, positioning itself as a leading player in the region.
Meanwhile, Explora Journeys will embark on its first summer sailing in Alaska, introducing land-based tours to enhance the experience before and after the cruise. President Anna Nash described these new offerings as aimed at giving guests a deeper connection to Alaska’s stunning landscapes and rich culture.
Japan: An Emerging Trend for American Travelers
Japan continues to gain popularity among U.S. travelers, prompting cruise lines to significantly boost their itineraries for 2027. Princess Cruises will deploy a second ship in the region, marking its largest Japan deployment with 78 sailings across 50 different itineraries. The itineraries range from week-long jaunts to excursions lasting up to 28 days.
Other lines like Celebrity and National Geographic are also ramping up their Japanese offerings. Celebrity will bring back the Celebrity Millennium for a second season, while Lindblad Expeditions will be increasing their departures, reflecting the growing interest in this culturally-rich destination.
Caribbean: A Perennial Favorite
The Caribbean remains an enduring favorite, with cruise lines expanding their offerings significantly. Windstar Cruises is set to have its most extensive winter 2026-27 Caribbean season, driven in part by its new ship, the Star Seeker.
Additionally, the Orient Express Corinthian will debut in the Caribbean in October 2026, marking a new chapter for the luxury brand in this vibrant region.
Booking Trends and Future Outlook
Pam Young, senior vice president of partner relations at Travel Leaders Network, noted that cruise lines are launching their 2027 offerings for sale much earlier, aligning with a post-Covid trend towards earlier bookings. This shift allows travelers to plan their adventures further in advance, ensuring that popular sailings remain available.
“We see that our bookings perform nicely for further out,” Young stated. “We’re excited to see that they continue to do that.”
With an exciting array of new itineraries and destinations, 2027 is shaping up to be a remarkable year for cruise vacations across Alaska, Japan, and the Caribbean. As cruise enthusiasts prepare for their adventures, these enhancements promise an enriching experience for all who set sail.
